Aedas Pen Huge Wuxi Office Scheme
Preparation work is underway for the construction of a new complex to be sited in the Chinese city of Wuxi at Hang Lung Plaza.
Named Centre 66, and sadly being one digit off what Iron Maiden could be proud of, the project comes from the drawing boards of renowned architectural firm Aedas on behalf of Hang Lung Properties. When completed it will consist of two towers standing at heights of 245 metres and 215 metres.
The towers will stand on a curving, fully glazed podium base which is broken up by three large, glass atria laid out in almost a triangular shape designed to promote circulation around the site.
The base will also incorporate a large public plaza space that contains a number of restored historic theatrical buildings which rather handily are located above the metro station which will service the site.
From this base the towers which are placed slightly turning towards each other as if in conversation rise skywards to flat, two multi-level peaks. The towers are rectangular in shape with inwardly curving facades that stop them being another set of boxes and to help soften the appearance.
The facades are fully glazed with occasional horizontal, geometrically patterned banding in places which breaks up the sheerness quite so much.
Located in the heart of the city, when complete the project with provide 225,000 square metres of floorspace, the vast majority of which will be premium offices. All being well the project should be complete and open for business in 2014.
