Revolving Tower Planned In Malaysia
Proposals have been put forward for a massive new project to be located in Kuala Lumpur's inner city on a site formerly known as Pekeliling Flats which is currently being demolished.
Sited at the crossroads of Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Pahang and the Gombak River, the project which comes from the drawing boards of Malaysian architects Goh Hock Guan and Associates and will cover a massive 22.3 hectares and will have a price tag of RM 9 billion which works out at approximately GBP 1.55 billion or approaching 3 billion US dollars.
Comprising of various high-rise towers and shorter buildings the centre piece and crowning glory of the project will be a 60 storey revolving tower. Quite a few revolving towers have been proposed the world over but as of yet none have been built so the project could end up being a world first.
Located at the rivers edge the tower stands on a podium base which has stilt like extensions protruding from it, which links to a bridge over the river at the front whilst at the back continues to spread out as a low rise building leading into the rest of the project.
Cylindrical in shape the tower is split into several sections to allow it to revolve, these are constructed in differing colours which is perhaps to mark each sections differing use, the tower is then covered in a glazed curtain wall with intricate looking patterning.
The exact use of the tower is currently unknown but it is more than likely to be a mixed use project with office and residential spaces, and who wouldnt want to live in a spinning tower.
The project is expected to take 7 to 10 years to complete with each of the 19 parcels estimated to take an average of 36 months to finish. Once done the complex will offer a variety of residential, office and shopping spaces along with entertainment, government buildings and a medical centre.
