Raffles Strike Jackpot In Hangzhou
Approval has been given to yet another skyscraper project to grace Hangzhou's flourishing skyline.
The project Named Raffles City Hangzhou is the fourth installment to CapitaLand's "Raffles City" brand which already has one of its projects, Raffles City Shanghai completed and the remaining three sited in Beijing, Chengdu and this one in Hangzhou at various stages of development with all expected to be completed by 2012.
All of the large scale projects are designed by big named architects including Steven Holl, the P+T group, Alsop Architects and this one is the work of UN Studio.
Located in the central development area of Qianjiang New City, an area that is earmarked as the new Central Business District for the city the project consists of two 250 metres tall towers set on a massive, almost rectangular shaped podium base.
Constructed from white coloured concrete and glazing the podium curves in places breaking it away from a totally rectangular form and is also in keeping with the form of the tower. These are also formed from the same concrete and glazing combination used in the base and have the same curvaciousness.
The towers are designed in such a way that their appearance changes when viewed from different angles, when seen from behind the towers seem almost bottle shaped, having a wide base that rises and curves inwards to form the neck until it reaches a flat, spireless peak.
When viewed from the side the towers facades twist slightly and when seen from the front they curve inwards again giving them a new perspective.
The facades of the towers are fully glazed with bluish tinted glazed and framed in white giving a chequered appearance, large balconies feature on the podium facing facades which have many green spaces distributed over them.
The podium will house approximately 100,000 square metres of shopping space, along with cafes and other amenities available to the general public, the roof also features large sky gardens.
One tower will house premium office spaces whilst the other will be given over to a five star hotel which will have the usually fun stuff like gyms and spas and also fully serviced apartments.
Adding much needed infrastructure, the towers will be connected to the Metro Line M1 which is currently under construction via an underground passageway which is connected to the City Hall Main Station, which will become the main station in the CBD once its built.
